The Texas A&M men's golf team will compete in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday at Austin Country Club. Eleven of the tournament's 18 teams are ranked in the nation's top 25 by Golfweek.
The event will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday on the 6,906-yard, par-72 course.
In addition to A&M, the field includes No. 6-ranked Texas, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 10 UNLV, No. 7 TCU, No. 11 Arizona State, No. 22 Arkansas, Tulsa, No. 4 Georgia Tech, Baylor, Pepperdine, No. 17 Southern California, Fresno State, No. 19 BYU, No. 18 New Mexico, North Florida, No. 24 Oklahoma and Houston. A&M is ranked No. 31.
The Aggies will be represented by seniors Stephen Reed, David Tasker and Parker Briley, along with sophomore Andrew Parr and junior David Schultz.
"This week should be very exciting as well as challenging for our team," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "Besides playing Texas on its home course in Austin, we will be facing six other teams ranked in the Top 25. Austin Country Club is always a difficult test of golf and the field is tremendous, and we areanxious to find out where we stand against some of the best teams in the nation. We want to see howfar we have come and how much work we have left to do.It's always fun to compete against the best to see just how you match up."
A&M has opened the spring season with a pair of solid performances, finishing fifth in a 15-team field at the Louisiana Classics and tying for sixth at the 19-team John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
Tasker has posted consecutive top 10 finishes and leads the team with a 72.59 stroke average, followed by Reed (73.00), Parr (73.18), Schultz (73.43) and Briley (75.35).
