Pitcher Jill Weynand, left fielder Jana James and center fielder Sharonda McDonald were named to the Florida State Invitational All-Tournament team on Sunday. The Texas A&M softball team improved to 17-11 on the season and brought home a second place finish in the tourney as they were 5-1 on the weekend.
Weynand, a redshirt freshman from Frisco, Texas, was a perfect 2-0 on the weekend as she did not allow a run in two complete game efforts. Weynand also struck out 16 batters including 10 against Notre Dame on Saturday night.
James, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, led the team with a .438 average on the weekend and recorded five RBI on seven hits including a triple and a solo home run. James was also a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen bases.
McDonald, a freshman from Houston, Texas, was second on the team with a .389 average and was 9-for-10 in stolen bases, including four against Robert Morris on Saturday. McDonald led the team in hits (7) and runs scored (8).
The Aggies next game comes on Thursday at 7 p.m. (CST) in Fullerton, Ca. when they take on Princeton in their first game of the Kia Classic.
