Senior David Tasker and junior David Schultz each carded two-under-par 70s on Friday to lead the Texas A&M men's golf team into a tie for second place after the first round of the prestigious Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club.
The tournament continues with 18 holes on Saturday and a final 18 on Sunday on the par-72, 7,508-yard course, the site of the PGA TOUR's Houston Open. Of the 16 teams in the field, 10 are ranked among the nation's top 25 by Golfweek.
The Aggies posted a team score of five-under-par 283 and are in a four-way tie for second with No. 16-ranked Arkansas, No. 7 Texas and No. 8 TCU. No. 20-ranked Arizona owns a six-stroke lead after posting after an 11-under-par 277.
Tasker and Schultz had similar rounds, with each player recording four birdies and two bogeys. Sophomore Andrew Parr added a one-under-par 71 for the Aggies, while senior Stephen Reed posted a 72 and freshman Tyler Kief had a 79.
Arizona's Chris Nallen leads the individual standings after carding a six-under-par 66, one stroke better than second-place Stephen Polanski of TCU, who had a 67.
No. 23 Oklahoma is in sixth place at 286, followed by No. 11 UNLV (287), England (288), Francis Marion (288), No. 6 Arizona State (288), No. 10 Oklahoma State (289), No. 17 New Mexico (290), East Tennessee State (294), No. 9 Minnesota (295), Rice (299), Sweden (303), Houston (304) and Averitt College (329).
