The Texas A&M volleyball team begins its spring exhibition season Saturday as the Aggies host the 2004 Texas A&M Spring Volleyball Tournament.

All matches will be played at the Student Rec Center, and spectators are asked to enter through the marked double doors on the south side of the building adjacent to Parking Lot 103. Admission is free.

The six-team tournament gets underway at 10:15 a.m. The Aggies will play three matches and take the court for the first time at 11:30 a.m. against Texas State. A&M faces SMU at 12:45 p.m., and concludes the tournament at 3:15 against Rice, which is coached by former A&M assistant Genny Wood-Volpe.

Other teams participating in the tournament are Sam Houston State and Texas-San Antonio.

All matches will be best two-out-of-three games to 30 points with the third game being played to 15 points.

10:15 a.m. Rice vs. Texas-San Antonio

SMU vs. Texas State

11:30 a.m. Rice vs. Sam Houston State

Texas A&M vs. Texas State

12:45 p.m. Texas A&M vs. SMU

Sam Houston State vs. Texas-San Antonio

2:00 p.m. SMU vs. Texas-San Antonio

Rice vs. Texas State

3:15 p.m. Sam Houston State vs. Texas State

Texas A&M vs. Rice

This is the first of four tournaments the Aggies will participate in during the spring. On April 3, A&M is slated to play in a tournament hosted by the University of Texas. The Aggies then participate in a tournament hosted by UC Santa Barbara on April 10 and conclude their spring schedule at the SMU Tournament on April 17.

Texas A&M coach Laurie Corbelli returns four starters from the fall season in which the Aggies went 23-10. A&M was ranked No. 16 in the final national poll after making its 11th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and advancing to the Sweet 16 before being eliminated by eventual national champion Southern California.
