The Aggies (20-15, 2-0) scored three runs in the third on a double and two home runs to take a 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish as they held on to complete the sweep of No. 9 Oklahoma (26-11-1, 0-2) on Sunday. Senior right hander Lindsay Wilhelmson (5-3) earned the 5-4 victory in relief as she allowed one run, unearned, on six hits and one walk.
The Sooners started the scoring in the first when catcher Heather Scaglione put her team on top, 2-0, with her tenth home run of the year scoring shortstop Norrelle Dickson.
OU third baseman Jamie Fox increased the OU lead to 3-0 in the second when she hit the scoreboard in left with her sixth home run of the season.
The Aggies began their ascent in the second when third baseman Laura Durham took a 0-1 pitch and deposited it deep in to left center field plating first baseman Kristen Gunter from second. Gunter reached on a double to left center. The home run was only the second one that OU left hander Kami Keiter had given up in 61 innings of work, but not the last she would allow in the game.
The Aggie comeback reached its pinnacle in the third when the A&M batters jumped on Keiter again, knocking her out of the game. With a double by Jana James and home runs by Adrian Gregory and Kristen Gunter, Keiter was finished for the day with five runs allowed in 2.2 innings of work.
With one out, James hit a line drive double off the end of the left fielders glove, setting the table for Gregory who crushed the 0-1 delivery over the center field fence putting the Aggies on top 4-3. Gunter topped off the scoring when she hit a towering shot to left field that clanged off the light pole giving the Aggies a 5-3 lead.
Sooner second baseman April Valdez brought her team to within one in the fourth inning with a single up the middle that scored Mariee Mena from third. The Sooners would get no more runs as they were retired with runners at second and third in the seventh and were swept by the Aggies for the first time since 1982.
