The Texas A&M softball team (20-16, 2-1) fell to the No. 19 Baylor Bears (34-6, 5-0), 1-0, on Wednesday at Getterman Stadium on the Waco campus. Senior right hander Jessica Kapchinski and the Aggie defense kept the Bears from capitalizing on two base runners in each of the second and third innings but could not overcome a seventh-inning error as the Bears pushed one across in the final frame to take the win.
Baylor center fielder Kelly Levesque led off the seventh by reaching on an Aggie fielding error and advanced to second when April Luce grounded out to the pitcher. Levesque then scored the deciding run when pinch hitter Chelsi Lake delivered her with a single up the middle.
In the loss Kapchinski (5-5) threw a complete game five-hitter and did not allow an earned run as she retired Baylor batters in order in four of her seven innings of work. She also struck out six batters and did not give up a walk.
The Aggies continue conference action this weekend when they travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State in a two-game set at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The Aggies and Cyclones play on Saturday at 1 p.m. and close out the series on Sunday at noon.
