The Texas A&M softball team (20-16, 2-1) continues conference action this weekend as the travel to Ames, Iowa to take on Iowa State (8-17, 1-1) in a two-game set at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The first game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. with a second game on Sunday at noon.
The Aggies are coming off a seventh inning, 1-0, loss to No. 19 Baylor on Wednesday after opening conference play with a sweep of No. 9 Oklahoma.
A&M leads Iowa State 20-4 in all-time play. The two schools split their series last season in a doubleheader in College Station.
Iowa State opened conference at Texas Tech where they split the two-game series last weekend. The Cyclones play Northern Iowa on Thursday.
The Aggies are led by freshman Sharonda McDonald and junior Jana James. McDonald leads the team, and conference, in runs (31) and stolen bases (30). James is tops on the team with a .315 average and 22 RBI. Senior right hander Jessica Kapchinski seems to have hit her stride and has carried the majority of the work load as of late for the Aggies. Kapchinski (5-5) has recorded a team-high 84 strikeouts and has a 1.77 ERA.
The Aggies have 91 stolen bases on the season, 21 away from the team mark of 112 set in 1999.
The Aggies are currently third in the Big 12 with a 2-1 record while the Cyclones are tied for fourth with a 1-1 record.
At the plate the Cyclones are led by senior Julia Lindsay. Lindsay has a team-high .299 average and six stolen bases in eight attempts. Freshman right hander Alyssa Ransom has thrown the majority of innings for ISU and has a 6-8 record with a 2.29 ERA.
