The Texas A&M men's golf team carded a final round of 297 on Saturday and finished seventh at the 53rd annual Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club.
SMU won the title with rounds of 282-276-294=852, finishing seven strokes ahead of runner-up Baylor (859). No. 14-ranked BYU placed third (862), followed by Colorado State (866), San Diego State (869), No. 19 Arkansas (872), Texas A&M (296-282-297=875), Texas Tech (876), Lamar (877), Texas-Arlington (881), North Texas (881), Southeastern Louisiana (890), Texas-San Antonio (890), Houston (892), Michigan State (893), Rice (901) and Texas State (908).
Colorado State's Martin Laird captured individual honors with a nine-under-par total of 68-68-71=207, edging by one stroke Baylor's Ryan Baca (208) and SMU's Jerad Harklau (208).
A&M senior David Tasker tied for 10th with a two-under-par total of 71-70-73=214, his fourth top-10 finish in five starts this spring.
Also for A&M, junior David Schultz tied for 23rd (73-74-72=219), senior Stephen Reed tied for 29th (77-67-76=220), sophomore Andrew Parr tied for 45th (76-71-76=223) and sophomore Rand Arbuckle tied for 69th (76-74-79=229).
Competing as individuals for the Aggies and not counting toward the team score were senior Mark Schultz, tied for 78th (82-72-77=231), senior Parker Briley, tied for 86th (84-74-78=236), sophomore Brook Gerky, tied for 86th (80-80-76=236), and freshman Peter Andrews, 93rd (84-78-81=243).
The Aggies return to action at Auburn's Billy Hitchcock Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Opelika, Ala., their final tuneup for the Big 12 Championships April 26-27 in Hutchinson, Kan.
