The Texas A&M softball team (22-16, 4-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to complete the sweep of Iowa State (9-18, 1-3) as they blanked the Cyclones, 3-0, on Sunday at the Southwest Athletic Complex. Shortstop Adrian Gregory put the deciding run on the board when she hit a leadoff home run in the seventh that broke a scoreless tie. The Aggies added two more runs in the inning to secure the win.

"It is always tough to sweep on the road. It is tough to sweep at home or away and I thought our kids did a nice job of staying in it," A&M coach Jo Evans commented. "Adrian's home run in the seventh was huge. We really needed to put a run on the board. I would like to see us be a little more aggressive offensively but I like the way we came out in the seventh and shut the door."

Pinch runner Lisa Gorzycki scored the Aggies' second run when Lindsay Wilhelmson hit a bloop single to right field and the Iowa State second baseman and right fielder collided allowing Gorzycki to score from first. Gorzycki was pinch running for Laura Durham who reached on an infield single to deep short. A&M put a third run across when Joy Davis, who was pinch running for Wilhelmson, scored on a single to center by Sherah Atkins.

Wilhelmson (5-3) got the start and took a no decision in the game as she threw five scoreless innings while giving up four hits and no walks while striking out two.

Senior Jessica Kapchinski earned her second win of the weekend and improved to 7-5, 3-1 in conference, as she entered in relief in the sixth and threw two scoreless innings while striking out four batters.

"I was really pleased that our pitchers came and gave us a chance to win," Evans said. "We struggled a bit offensively this weekend and when your pitchers keep you in the game as long as ours did it gives you an opportunity to get comfortable at the plate and score some runs."

The Aggies play again on Wednesday against in-state rival Texas at 6:30 p.m. at McCombs field in Austin.
