The Texas A&M men's golf team fired a one-over-par 289 on Friday and is tied for fifth after the opening round of the 19th annual Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate at Saughahatchee Country Club.
The tournament continues with Saturday's second round and concludes with the final round on Sunday.
Sophomore Andrew Parr paced the Aggies in the first round with a two-under-par 70 and is tied for fifth place in the individual standings, three strokes behind co-leaders Nick Mackay of Jacksonville State and Rusty Mosley of Florida State, who carded 67s.
A&M senior Stephen Reed also had a solid performance with a one-under-par 71 and is tied for 10th place. Aggies David Schultz and David Tasker are tied for 32nd after posting 74s, while sophomore Rand Arbuckle is tied for 45th with a 76.
Jacksonville State leads the tournament after carding a seven-under-par 281 and leads second-place Auburn (284) by three shots. Florida State is in third (286), followed by Southeastern Louisiana (288), A&M (289), Alabama-Birmingham (289), College of Charleston (291), Memphis (293), South Alabama (294), Mississippi (295), Georgia State (299) and Mississippi State (305).
