The No. 9 Texas A&M (36-14; 11-9) baseball team will play a three-game series against Kansas State (25-25; 3-18) this weekend at Olsen Field in College Station. The Aggies successfully returned form a nine-day break for final exams to defeat Texas-San Antonio 9-2 on Wednesday. The win was the third in a row for A&M, including the final two games against Nebraska two weekends ago. Kansas State handily defeated Morehead State on Tuesday and Wednesday to get to the .500 mark for the season. Fans can stay tuned to AggieAthletics.com to keep track of the status of this weekend's games. There is expected to be inclement weather in the College Station area the entire weekend.

SERIES NOTES:

  • A&M head coach Mark Johnson has an all-time record of 22-4 against Kansas State. Prior to the start of the Big 12 Conference in 1997, the Aggies and Wildcats faced each other five times while Johnson was the head coach. Texas A&M won four of the five contests. Kansas State came to the Continental Classic in 1991 and 1994, with the Aggies winning three of the four games. The other meeting between teh two schools was in 1985. Texas A&M won the game at the Pan American Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.
  • Texas A&M has won all seven of the Big 12 series between the two schools. The Aggies earned series sweeps in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2003 while winning two of three games in 1997, 2001 and 2002. The Aggies swept Kansas state at Olsen Field in 1998 and 2000.
  • Last season, Texas A&M earned a series sweep of the Wildcats in Manhattan. The Aggies mauled Wildcat pitching for 34 runs on 47 hits. The Aggie lineup collected nine doubles and eight home runs.

NOTABLES

  • Cory Patton was taken out of the lineup for two straight games on Apr. 11 and Apr. 13. Since returing to the lineup 11 games ago, Patton has scorched the baseball. He is 20-for-43 (.465) with five home runs, two doubles, two triples and 14 RBI.
  • Coby Mavroulis has hit safely in 14 of the last 16 games. During that span he is 24-for-62 (.387) with 13 RBI.
  • Erik Schindewolf suffered a hand injury in a collision with right fielder Cory Patton and first baseman Coby Mavroulis in the Aggies' April 17 game against Oklahoma. He saw his first action since the injury, on Wednesday, as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning against Texas-San Antonio.
  • Mark Johnson announced that catcher Justin Pouk and infielder Parker Dalton will receive medical redshirts for the season.
