Senior Jessica Kapchinski was named as a third-team All-American by the NFCA on Wednesday.
"Jessica had a career year this year," head coach Jo Evans commented. "I am very excited that she was named as an all-American. She is certainly deserving of this award. It is always a great honor to be named an all-American."
Kapchinski, a senior from Humble, Texas, led the team with a 1.18 ERA in 178.2 innings in the circle. She allowed 45 runs, 30 earned, and recorded 184 strikeouts while posting an 18-10 overall record. She led the Aggies on an 11-game conference win streak and helped her team finish 1/2 game behind Nebraska in the Big 12.
Before the start of the Big 12 Tournament, Kapchinski was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year as well as being named a first-team All-Big 12 selection.
In conference play, Kapchinski posted a 12-2 mark and a league-best 0.38 ERA in 91 innings of work. She allowed only five earned runs and struck out 78 while holding opponents to a .144 batting average.
Kapchinski is the 15th Aggie softball player to be named an all-American. The last Aggie to be named an All-American was catcher Selena Collins who was a third-team selection in 2002.
