Texas A&M senior David Tasker has been named a 2004 Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

"David is the epitome of the term 'student/athlete,'" A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "He had an outstanding senior season on the golf course and in the classroom. He takes great pride in everything he does and, fortunately for us, he seems to do everything well. We take great pride in our scholastic achievements on the golf team and we are proud of David for earning this award."

An accounting major, Tasker earned PING All-Region honors this season for the second straight year. He led the team with a 73.26 stroke average, the best by an Aggie since All-American Anthony Rodriguez in 1994-95 (72.1). Tasker posted seven top-20 and four top-10 finishes and placed in the top 15 in five spring tournaments. His 54-hole score of 70-67-70=207 at the Burns Intercollegiate in February was the fifth-best in school history.

A native of Willowvale, New South Wales, Australia, Tasker's 73.28 career stroke average is the best in school history. A&M has produced an Academic All-America in men's golf in four straight years. Parker Briley earned the award in 2003 after Sean Gilliland was honored in 2001 and 2002.

Recipients must be a junior or senior academically and must have competed in at least two full years at the collegiate level. They also must have participated in 70 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have posted a stroke average under 76.0 and have maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and in good standing at his college or university.
