Texas A&M head coach Mark Johnson has an all-time record of 3-8 against the Louisiana State Tigers, including a 0-4 record against the Tigers in the NCAA Tournament.

The Aggies and Tigers have not faced each other since the 1995 Winn Dixie Showdown in the Superdome in New Orleans. LSU squeaked out a 7-6 win, scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the 11th.

Perhaps the most memorable set of games between the two schools took place during the 1989 NCAA Central Regional held in College Station. The Aggies, needing just one win to advance to the College World Series and entering the championship game with a record of 58-5, dropped the first game to LSU to force a second championship game.

Texas A&M jumped out to an early 4-1 lead behind three RBIs by Mike Easley. LSU cut the lead to one run on a two-run homer by Wes Grisham in the fifth and tied the game in the ninth with a RBI single by Pete Bush.

In the top of the 11th, seldom used pinch hitter Pat Garrity's RBI double plated the game-winner.

Curtis Leskanic held the Aggies scoreless for four innings of relief and Ben McDonald, who pitched seven innings in the first game, recorded the last out for LSU.

Despite not reaching the College World Series, the Aggies finished the season ranked No. 2 nationally.
