Four members of the Texas A&M baseball team were selected in the 2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft held this week.
Junior left-handed pitcher Zach Jackson (Cranberry Township, Pa.) was a compensatory-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays and was taken 32nd overall in the draft.
With the selection of Jackson by Toronto, assistant head coach and pitching coach Jim Lawler has had 11 pitchers drafted in the first and second rounds in his 20 seasons at Texas A&M.
Senior outfielder Cory Patton (Owasso, Okla.) was picked as the 16th selection of the sixth round (177th overall), also by the Blue Jays.
Senior outfielder Justin Ruggiano (Austin, Texas) was the 17th pick of the 25th round (748th overall) and went to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Senior second baseman Erik Schindewolf (Spring, Texas) was the 15th pick of the 26th round (776th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Aggies open NCAA Super Regional action on Saturday at LSU's Alex Box Stadium. The winner of the best-of-three series earns a trip to Omaha and the College World Series.
