Texas A&M senior wide receiver Terrence Murphy and junior defensive back Jaxson Appel were recognized last week as the media Preseason All-Big 12 teams were announced by the conference office.

Murphy was named to the offensive squad as a kick returner. A first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2003, he was named the team's offensive most valuable player after leading the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (762), kickoff return yardage (27.2) and all-purpose yards (1,538). Murphy's kickoff return average led the league while his 626 kickoff return yards was a school record. The 1,538 all-purpose yards was a school best for a wide receiver.

Appel was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2003 while being named A&M's defensive MVP and leading the team in tackles (135) and interceptions (4). He started all 12 games at free safety and had double-digit tackles in eight games, recovered three fumbles and forced two. Appel's 135 tackles was the most in school history by a defensive back.

The Aggies open the 2004 season on Thursday, Sept. 2, when they travel to Salt Lake City to face defending Mountain West Conference champion Utah. Kickoff at Rice-Eccles Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. (CDT) and the game will be televised nationally by ESPN.
