Texas A&M senior Geoff Hangartner was named to the updated watch list for the Dave Rimington Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate center, The Sports Group announced on Thursday.
"College football season is about anticipation and execution," said former Nebraska All-American Dave Rimington. "We are looking forward to tracking our watch list candidates as the season progresses. Each season we look to highlight the top centers in the country through our watch list as well as the weekly Rimington Reports and in 2004 we feel that we have a very exciting group of young men."
The Rimington Trophy recipient is determined by a consensus of the four All-America teams: The Walter Camp Football Foundation, America Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, and The Sporting News.
Hangartner has started the last 24 games for the Aggies and earned third-team All-Big 12 mention in 2003. The Aggies' Offensive Line Co-MVP last season, Hangartner helped pave the way for a 1,000-yard rusher and A&M's first 2,000-yard team rushing effort since 1997.
Hangartner is also a member of the Lombardi Award watch list. Other Aggies on major award watch lists are junior Jaxson Appel (Jim Thorpe Award) and junior Todd Pegram (Lou Groza Award).
Hangartner's predecessor at offensive center, Seth McKinney, was the runner-up for the Rimington Trophy in 2001. McKinney is a third-year player with the Miami Dolphins.
