McNeese State opened its season with a 30-28, 30-22, 30-25 victory over Georgia Southern in the opening match of the McDonald?s/Texas A&M Invitational at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
Nicole James and Trisha Seale led the Cowgirls? balanced attack with 10 kills apiece, and setter Courtney Ellisor dished out 32 assists in the win.
Libero Jessica Strama tallied a match-high 14 digs and Lindsay Doughty posted six blocks for MSU as the Cowgirls outblocked the Lady Eagles, 9-7.
GSU?s Iulia Porumbescu was the only Lady Eagle to record double figures in kills with a match-leading 19 and helped GSU to a 42-35 edge in total kills. Porumbescu completed a double-double with a team-high 12 digs.
McNesse returns to the court Friday with an 8:30 a.m. match against Samford. Georgia Southern faces No. 15 Texas A&M at 10:30 a.m. in the Aggies? season opener.

Tickets are $7 for a reserve seat, $5 for adult general admission and $3 for high school age and under. A ticket is valid for all matches played on the day in which it is purchased. A&M students with all-sports passes are admitted free.
