No. 15 Texas A&M opened its season with a 30-15, 30-27, 30-13 victory over Georgia Southern at the McDonald's/Texas A&M Invitational at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
Junior middle blocker Kendra Felder (Corpus Christi, Texas) led the Aggies with 12 kills and only one error in 20 attacks. Junior outside hitter Laura Jones (Arlington, Texas) also reached double figures in kills with 10.
Aggie senior middle Melissa Munsch added nine kills with no errors for a .529 hitting percentage. The Columbus, Texas, native also had match highs of eight blocks and 10 digs as A&M outhit the Eagles, 265 to .030.
Setter Kari Kelley (Houston) had 31 assists for the Aggies.
Gorana Bacic led Georgia Southern (0-2) with nine kills, and Staci Anderson tied for match-high honors in digs with 10.
The Aggies return to action later this afternoon as they take on McNeese State at 4:30 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
In earlier tournament play, McNeese State improved to 2-0 with a 30-21, 30-12, 30-22 victory over Samford (0-2).
