The No. 24-ranked Texas A&M men's golf team carded a 303 on Friday and is in sixth place after the first round of the Notre Dame Invitational/Central Regional Preview at Lost Dunes Golf Club.
The tournament continues with 18 holes on Saturday and a final 18 holes on Sunday, with both rounds played at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
The Aggies were led by true freshman Bobby Gates, who is tied for eighth place after posting a three-over-par 73. Juniors Andrew Parr and Jerad Harklau each carded 76s, freshman Martin Piller had a 78 and junior Rand Arbuckle shot an 81. Freshman Trey Todd, competing as an individual, posted an 82.
Kent State leads the tournament after carding a seven-over-par 287 and leads second-place Michigan State (294) by seven strokes. Texas Tech is in third (296), followed by Colorado (298), Notre Dame (299), A&M, Indiana (304), Arkansas (305), Xavier (306), Northwestern (309), Iowa State (310), Missouri (310), Toledo (311), Tulsa (311) and SMU (321).
Kent State's Ryan Yip leads the individual standings after a two-under-par 68 and is one shot ahead of teammate Steve Lohmeyer and Michigan State's Ryan Brehm.
