Four members of Texas A&M's 1998 Big 12 Championship team will serve as honorary captains prior to Saturday's football game with Kansas State at 6 p.m. at Kyle Field.
Quarterbacks Branndon Stewart and Randy McCown will be joined by wide receivers Matt Bumgardner and Leroy Hodge for the coin toss where they will also be honored. The foursome will appear in the Aggie Fan Zone for photos and autographs prior to the game.
A&M used two overtimes to defeat then top-ranked Kansas State, 36-33, in the league championship game in 1998 in St. Louis. The Aggies won the game when Stewart connected with running back Sirr Parker for a 32-yard touchdown pass.
During the Aggies fourth quarter comeback, Hodge scored a touchdown on 13-yard pass from Stewart that cut the Wildcats' lead to 27-19.
Later, Bumgardner made a spectacular 36-yard catch that set up the game-tying touchdown, 27-27, for the Aggies in the fourth.
McCown started several games in 1998, but missed the postseason due to injury. He was selected as a team captain for the 1999 campaign.
Tickets for Aggies' game with Kansas State are available by calling the Athletic Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AGGIE.
