Tim Cassidy, former associate athletic director for football at Texas A&M University, has accepted the associate athletic director for football position at the University of Nebraska.
"I've known Steve Pederson (Nebraska Athletic Director) for many years and I appreciate the opportunity to work with Coach Bill Callahan," Cassidy said.
"My wife and I were born in Nebraska and my mother still lives in Omaha," Cassidy added. "I'm ready to hit the ground running."
"Texas A&M has been very good to me and my family," Cassidy stated. "The majority of my adult life has been spent in College Station and two of our three children were born here. We have been so blessed to have a wonderful church and we are so grateful to numerous people in the community and administration for their support and friendship through the years."
"I thank Bill Byrne and Coach Franchione for their support and I know the future is bright here at Texas A&M," Cassidy added. "There are very few job offers I would ever consider leaving Aggieland for, but I felt like this is the best thing for me and my family."
"I would also like to thank the Aggie players and their families for allowing me to become a part of their lives throughout my time here," Cassidy explained. "Those relationships are the best part of this profession."
Cassidy served this past year as the associate athletic director for football and coordinated recruiting efforts as well as serving as the color commentator on the radio broadcasts.
"Tim has been a valuable member of our senior staff and we would like to wish him and his family all of the best," Byrne said. "Knowing the people in Nebraska, Tim will be welcomed with open arms."
"Tim did a great job for us here at Texas A&M and really helped smooth our transition this past year," Coach Fran said. "We wish him and his family well in their new pursuit."
Cassidy currently serves as the Chairman of the American Football Coaches Association's Football Operations Committee. He has been ranked among the nation's top recruiters by several publications.
Cassidy was a man behind the scenes serving as the pro football liaison, coordinating recruiting activities as well as coordinating the highly successful Aggie football camps.
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Cassidy graduated in 1976 from Ryan High School in Omaha. He graduated in 1981 with a degree in physical education and health from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Upon graduation, he coached receivers at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.
He first came to Texas A&M in 1983 as a graduate assistant to Aggie recruiting coordinator Dan LaGrasta and to pursue a master's degree. He earned his master's degree in education from Texas A&M in 1984 and was named the Aggies' recruiting coordinator in the spring of 1985. He served in that capacity through the 1986 season before taking the director of recruiting position with the University of Florida for the 1987 and 1988 seasons.
When Coach R.C. Slocum took over as head coach of the Aggies in 1989, he brought Cassidy back to Aggieland as the recruiting coordinator. In 1992, Cassidy was promoted to assistant athletic director for recruiting and in 1994 was awarded the title of assistant athletic director and director of football operations. In 1995, he was promoted to associate athletic director and director of football operations.
Cassidy and his wife Nancy have three children--Ryan (18), Austin (15) and Danielle (14).
