Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal, a junior from Lufkin, Texas, earned SBC Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Aggies to a 36-20 upset of previously unbeaten Oklahoma State last weekend in Stillwater, the conference office announced on Monday.
Also earning Player of the Week honors were linebacker Derrick Johnson of Texas (defense) and placekicker Mason Crosby of Colorado (special teams).
McNeal's masterful performance against the Cowboys included 288 passing yards and 98 rushing yards for a career-high 386 yards of total offense and four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing). His 386 yards of total offense ranked as the third-best single game effort in school history.
McNeal also keyed the Aggies' fifth turnover-free effort in six games this season. With 25 pass attempts against the Cowboys, McNeal increased his personal interception-free streak to 157 attempts dating back to the 2003 season finale and 149 straight in 2004. As a team, Texas A&M has not thrown an interception in 181 attempts, which broke the old record of 177 attempts set in 1968.
It was the Aggies' first road win over a ranked opponent in more than six seasons since a 16-10 win over No. 16 Colorado in Boulder in 1997.
On Sunday, McNeal was named the National Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation for his play against the Cowboys. Previously, McNeal received National Player of the Week honors after leading the Aggies to an upset victory over then No. 1-ranked Oklahoma in 2002.
