Texas A&M's Todd Pegram, a junior placekicker from Plano, Texas, was named one of the Lou Groza Award Top Three Stars of the Week after connecting on 5-of-5 field goal tries, including the game-tying and game-winning three-pointers in the Aggies' 29-26 overtime victory over Colorado last weekend, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced on Monday.
Also being honored by the Lou Groza Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top placekicker, were Tyler Jones of Boise State and Mike Nugent of Ohio State.
Pegram hit field goals of 33, 25, 34, 20 and 19 yards in the win over Colorado, which moved the No. 16 Aggies' overall record to 6-1 and 4-0 in Big 12 play. For the season, Pegram is a perfect 9-of-9 on three-point tries and has connected on 13 straight dating back to 2003.
In his career, Pegram is 38-of-52 (.731), the second best career percentage in school history behind Terrence Kitchens (30-of-41, .732, 1998-00). In the last two seasons, Pegram has connected on 26-of-31 (.838).
The Palm Beach County Sports Commission will host the 13th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, presented by the FedEx Orange Bowl, on Tuesday December 7th, at the West Palm Beach Marriott. This is an event of the Palm Beach County Sports Institute.
All Division I-A kickers are eligible for the Award named for NFL Hall-of-Fame Kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza. Voters for the Award include Division I-A head coaches, sports writers and sportscasters, conference representatives, professional kickers, and previous Groza Award finalists.
