Andrew Parr carded rounds of 70-67=137 on Monday to lead Texas A&M into fifth place after two rounds of the Barona Collegiate Cup at Barona Creek Golf Club.
Parr is tied for sixth in the individual standings and is three strokes behind Ohio State's Scott Anderson, who leads with a 10-under-par total of 67-67=134. BYU's Oscar Alvarez is in second at 66-69=135.
As a team, A&M carded rounds of 285-278 for a 13-under-par total of 563. BYU leads with an 28-under-par score of 548, followed by Ohio State (556), Colorado State (559) and Denver (560). UC-Santa Barbara and Wichita State are tied for sixth at 564, followed by Fresno State (568), Washington State (570), Texas-El Paso (571), San Diego State (572), San Diego (574), Hawaii (580) and Nevada (584).
A&M freshman Chris Thompson, making his college debut, is tied for 17th at 69-71=140, while freshman Bobby Gates is tied for 27th (71-71=142), freshman Martin Piller is tied for 50th (77-69=146) and freshman Trey Todd is tied for 63rd (75-74=149). Junior Rand Arbuckle, competing as an individual, is tied for 59th at 75-73=148.
"I'm really proud of how our young kids played today, but I'm especially proud of Andrew Parr," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "He played solid, smart golf today. We're in good position as a team and hopefully we can make a run tomorrow. We have a lot of guys gaining experience every tournament and they are learning and getting better."
