Laura Jones pounded 24 kills and Melissa Munsch added 18 kills and nine blocks to lead No. 15 Texas A&M to a 27-30, 30-18, 30-25, 30-17 victory over Oklahoma in front of 302 at McCasland Field House.
A&M extended its winning streak to six to improve to 14-5 overall and keep sole possession of third place in the Big 12 Conference with a 10-3 mark. The victory also was the Aggies' 24th straight over the Sooners, who fall to 10-11, 2-11.
"We were a little error-prone to start the match, but once we settled into system, we played a great game," A&M coach Laurie Corbelli said.
The Aggies allowed a six-point lead slip away as the Sooners fought back to win Game 1. A&M, which was outhit .270 to .089 in the game, held a 22-16 advantage when Oklahoma outscored the Aggies, 10-3, to overtake the lead. A&M tied the score at 26 and 27, but Anna Stadel put down a kill for the Sooners and then A&M was called for being in the net. Joanna Schmitt followed with a kill to give Oklahoma the win.
Oklahoma held a 9-7 lead in the second game when Jones posted three consecutive kills to propel the Aggies to five unanswered points and a 12-9 advantage. A&M, which hit .457 in the frame, held a commanding 26-18 lead when Jones tipped in a kill. Kendra Felder followed with a kill, and Jones capped off the game with back-to-back aces.
A nine-point rally gave the Aggies their first lead of the third game, 21-15. A&M extended its lead to seven points three times before Oklahoma went on a 6-2 run. The Sooners twice cut the lead to three points, the last coming at 28-25. Munsch teamed with Christi Hahn for a block and followed with the game-winning kill to put A&M ahead, two games to one.
A&M jumped out to 5-0 lead in the fourth frame and never looked back. The Aggies, who hit .500 in the game, finished off the game and the match with a five-point run. Munsch, who had two blocks during the rally, punctuated the victory with a straight-down match-ending kill.
A&M hit .267 and finished with 14 blocks in the match despite having only three blocks after the second game. Oklahoma finished with a .184 hitting efficiency and 9.5 blocks.
Jones, who hit .320 for the match, also led A&M in digs with 17.
Joanna Schmitt led the Sooners with 16 kills but was held to a .100 hitting percentage.
The Aggies conclude a two-match road swing Wednesday when they take on the Baylor Bears in Waco. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
