Texas A&M freshman Bobby Gates was been named a first-team Rolex Junior All-American on Tuesday by the American Junior Golf Association.
The honor caps an outstanding junior career by Gates, who was a second-team pick in 2003 and a honorable mention choice in 2002. He posted eight top-10 finishes in AJGA events and won the HP Boys' Junior Championship last summer at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Fla.
Gates has been A&M's top seed in its first two fall tournaments and leads the Aggies with a 72.83 stroke average. He tied for fourth in his debut at the Central Regional Preview.
Gates is the fourth first-team AJGA All-American to become an Aggie, joining Chris James (1987), Anthony Rodriguez (1991) and Ty Cox (1995).
Introduced by the AJGA in 1978, the Rolex Junior All-America Teams annually recognize those players who have established themselves as the world's premier junior golfers.
