Laura Jones of Texas A&M was named the Big 12 Volleyball Player of the Week for her performances during the week of Oct. 25-31, the league office announced Monday. Jones receives the honor for the second time this season and the third in her career.
Jones, a junior outside hitter, hit a team-high .288 and also led the Aggies with 5.5 kills, 4.75 digs and 6.0 points per game for the week to pace No. 15 A&M to wins against Missouri and Oklahoma.
The Arlington, Texas, native earned match-high honors in both kills and digs in each match as A&M (14-5, 10-3 Big 12) extended its win streak to a season-high six matches and remained in sole possession of third place in the Big 12.
Jones tallied back-to-back 20-kill performances and also recorded double figures in digs in each contest. She recorded her second 20-20 performance of the season and the third of her career with 20 kills and 21 digs in a crucial 3-1 victory over Missouri. Jones, who hit .259 against the Tigers, followed with a .320 hitting percentage, 24 kills and 17 digs, along with two aces and two blocks in the 3-1 win at Oklahoma.
Jones and the Aggies return to action Wednesday at Baylor. First serve is 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center in Waco. A&M enters the match having won the last 10 meetings against the Bears, including a 3-0 victory in College Station earlier this season.
