No. 14 Texas A&M (14-5, 10-3 Big 12) looks to extend its season-best six-match winning streak when the Aggies take on Baylor (11-13, 3-10 Big 12) Wednesday in Waco. First serve is at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. (A complete release in pdf format is available at www.AggieAthletics.com.)
The Aggies, who have won the last 10 meetings against the Bears, won their sixth consecutive match with a 3-1 victory at Oklahoma on Saturday. With the win, A&M remains in sole possession of third place in the Big 12, one game behind Texas.
Baylor, which is ninth in the league standings, ended a four-match losing skid with a 3-2 non-conference victory at Texas-San Antonio on Sunday.
In the first meeting of the season, A&M defeated Baylor, 30-23, 30-19, 30-23, on Sept. 29 in College Station.
SERIES RECORD: Texas A&M has won the last 10 meetings with Baylor and leads the all-time series, 50-7, since 1976. The Aggies are 18-4 in matches played in Waco. Baylor's last victory over A&M was a 3-2 upset against the 14th-ranked Aggies in Waco on Oct. 6, 1999. The loss kept A&M from tying Nebraska for the Big 12 title.
A&M is 20-3 against Baylor since Laurie Corbelli took over the Aggie coaching reins in 1993 and 14-3 since Big 12 play began in 1996.
In the meeting earlier this season, the Aggies posted a season-high 12 service aces, including five by Kendra Felder, to defeat the Bears, 3-0. Laura Jones and Melissa Munsch led A&M with 14 and 10 kills, respectively, and the Aggies hit .224 while holding Baylor to a .073 hitting percentage. Desiree Guilliard-Young led the Bears with eight kills.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: The Aggies return home Sunday, Nov. 7 to play host to Colorado. A&M defeated the Buffaloes, 3-1, in Boulder on Oct. 20. It was the first time in five meetings that the match did not go five games.
Following the Colorado match, A&M has only two road matches remaining - at No. 10 Texas, Nov. 11, and at Kansas Nov. 20 - and three home matches - Iowa State on Nov. 17 and No. 18 Kansas State and No. 3 Nebraska on Nov. 24 and 27, respectively.
