No. 13 Texas A&M (17-6, 13-4 Big 12) concludes the road portion of its regular-season schedule Saturday as the Aggies take on the Kansas Jayhawks (15-11, 6-11 Big 12). First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Horejsi Family Athletics Center in Lawrence. (A complete release in pdf format is available at www.AggieAthletics.com.)
The Aggies have won nine of their last 10 matches, including a sweep against Iowa State Wednesday in College Station which put A&M in sole possession of third place in the Big 12 standings.
Kansas opened the regular season winning its first eight matches but has struggled to a 6-11 mark in conference play. The Jayhawks are in seventh place in the league after dropping their last two matches to No. 3 Nebraska and No. 11 Texas, both on the road.
SERIES RECORD: The Aggies improved to 17-1 in the all-time series against the Jayhawks after defeating Kansas, 3-1, on Sept. 17 in College Station. Kansas, however, broke a 16-match losing skid to the Aggies and picked up its only win against A&M the last time the two teams met in Lawrence. And the Jayhawks got the win in convincing fashion, sweeping the Aggies, 30-21, 32-30, 30-21. After battling A&M to five games in each of the two preceding matches, the Jayhawks' sweep was the first sweep by either team since the Aggies defeated the Jayhawks, 3-0, in 2000.
UPCOMING SCHEDULE: A&M concludes the regular season with a crucial pair of home matches. The Aggies host defending Big 12 champions and 20th-ranked Kansas State Wednesday and then take on league leader and third-ranked Nebraska on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
A&M's four seniors, Lindsay Frantz, Carrie Moreira, Melissa Munsch and Sarah Vick will be recognized prior to the start of the Nebraska match.
