Texas A&M signed three student-athletes to volleyball national letters of intent during the early signing period, Aggie head coach Laurie Corbelli announced.
2004-05 VOLLEYBALL SIGNING CLASS (3)
| Name | Pos. | Ht. | Cl. | Hometown (Current School/Club) |
| Kelsey Bryant | MB | 6-2 | Fr. | Austin, Texas (Westlake/Austin Junior Volleyball) |
| Jillian Phillips | MB | 6-0 | Fr. | Marble Falls, Texas (Marble Falls/Austin Metro Volleyball) |
| Lindsey Yon | OH | 5-11 | Fr. | San Antonio, Texas (Reagan/CenTex Volleyball Club) |
All three are members of the 2004 Texas Girls Coaches Association all-state team and are listed in PrepVolleyball.com's Super Aces, a list of the top 250 recruits in the nation.
"Just knowing how much they have played, I anticipate that all three will make general contributions during their freshman year,? Corbelli said. "I'm excited that we got the balance that we needed. They are all net players who will add a great dimension to our team."
Bryant was named the co-MVP at the 2004 high school state tournament after leading Westlake to its second state title in three years and a 43-1 record. Bryant, who had 11 kills and 11 blocks in the sweep over Lubbock Coronado in the title match, also was named to the all-district team and ranks No. 65 in PrepVolleyball.com's Senior Aces.
"Kelsey brings good size at the net and is a top-notch blocker," Corbelli said. "She also has a great arm and produces a lot of power. Kelsey is technically advanced because she has been playing on a top club team, Austin Juniors, for so many years, and I expect her to contribute right away at the net in the middle."
Phillips, a three-year starter at Marble Falls High School, was recruited by more than 90 colleges and universities. She was named the co-MVP in District 27-4A and also was named to the academic all-state team as a senior. As a junior, Phillips was named the District 17-4A Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and also was a repeat on LoneStarVolleyball.com?s Players to Watch list. In addition, Phillips was invited to attend the USA Volleyball High Performance Development Camp for the second consecutive year.
"Jillian has one of the highest vertical jumps of all the '05 recruits in the nation," Corbelli said. "Her natural jumping ability allows her to play the game very high, especially when blocking. We needed to add a naturally good blocker immediately, and we might also use her some on the right side."
Yon made her second consecutive appearance on the TGCA all-state team this past season and was a unanimous selection to the All-District 26-5A first team after leading the Lady Rattlers to a 23-8 record, including a 10-1 mark in district play. It is Yon's third time to be named to the all-district team.
"Lindsey is an all-around athlete who brings feistiness and aggressiveness which stand out in her game," Corbelli said. "She is a competitor and she has an above average vertical jump. Her skills are well developed, and she is a fun player to watch."
Corbelli loses four seniors -- All-American middle blocker Melissa Munsch, outside hitters Carrie Moreira and Sarah Vick and defensive specialist Lindsay Frantz -- from the 2004 team that went19-9 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships.
