Redshirt freshman Jill Weynand earned her sixth win of the season (6-3) as she threw a complete game three-hit shutout against Central Michigan in the Ags first game of the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Fl. on Friday. Junior catcher Nicole Robinson continued her torrid pace at the plate as she was 2-for-3 with three RBI, including her third home run of the week.
A&M scored runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take out the Chippewas 7-0 at Messer Park.
The Aggies pushed the first run of the game across in the fourth inning when junior Adrian Gregory led off with a triple and then scored on a two-out single by Robinson.
The Aggies added to their lead in the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits while stealing four bases. Center fielder Sharonda McDonald was first to score after she reached on a fielder's choice and stole second and third before crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Sherah Atkins. Left fielder Jana James was next to cross home. She reached on an infield single, stole second and finally gave A&M a 3-0 lead when she was plated by a Gregory single to left center.
Robinson lifted the Aggies to a 5-0 lead in the sixth when she recorded her third RBI of the game with a home run to right field. Robinson's fourth home run of the season scored pinch runner Lisa Gorzycki from second after she entered the game for first baseman Kristen Gunter. Gunter led off the inning with a double to left center. Designated player Lindsay Wilhelmson kept the rally going with a line drive single up the middle. Morgan Hebert entered as a pinch runner for Wilhelmson and scored the Ags sixth run when McDonald hit in to a fielder's choice and the CMU pitcher threw the ball away. McDonald advanced to second on the error, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored A&M's final run on an Atkins single to left field.
A&M takes on No. 4 Florida State at 3 p.m. (CST) on Friday.
