The Texas A&M men's golf team was five-over-par and in sixth place midway through the second round of the Arizona Intercollegiate on Monday when when play was halted because of darkness.
The second round will be completed on Tuesday morning at the Arizona National Golf Club, followed immediately by the final round.
A&M opened with an even-par 284 in Monday's opening round, but was five-over in the afternoon round. Junior Andrew Parr and freshman Bobby Gates each posted one-under-par 70s, while freshman Trey Todd and junior Jerad Harklau had 72s. Senior David Schultz carded an 80.
BYU is in first place at eight-under-par, followed by Tulsa (-6), Arizona "B" (even), Arizona "A" (even), New Mexico (+4), A&M (+5), Arizona State (+9), UC Riverside (+11), Fresno State (+14), New Mexico State (+14), UC-Irvine (+15), Texas-El Paso (+23), California (+23), Colorado (+25), Oregon (+27) and Long Beach State (+31).
Arizona's State's Alejandro Canizares opened with a six-under par 65 and leads the individual standings at nine-under-par, four shots ahead of California's Jeff Hood (-5). Todd is tied for 12th with an even-par total through 29 holes to pace the Aggies.
"I'm pleased we're in contention, but I'm disappointed in how we finished this morning," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "we were six-under-par and had a chance to open up a lead, but gave it all back. We should be doing better than we are, but hopefully we can bring it back on Tuesday."
