The Texas A&M men's golf team will compete in the John Burns Intercollegiate Wednesday through Friday at Leilehua Golf Club.
The tournament will consist of 18 holes each day for a total of 54 holes.
In addition to A&M, the 21-team field includes Arizona, Denver, Texas-El Paso, UNLV, California, Colorado State, San Jose State, Hawaii-Hilo, San Francisco, Hawaii-Manoa, Colorado, Auburn, Cal-Santa Barbara, New Mexico, SMU, San Diego State, Pacific, Utah, Nevada and Nagoya.
Representing A&M will be freshman Robert Gates, junior Andrew Parr, freshman Trey Todd, junior Jerad Harklau and freshman Matt Van Zandt. Senior David Schultz will play as an individual.
The Aggies opened their spring schedule with a sixth-place finish at the PING Arizona Intercollegiate earlier this month. Gates leads the Aggies with a 72.80 stroke average.
"Taking the team to Hawaii is always a great experience but this year should be especially fun because of the fact that we are taking three freshmen who have never been there before and because I think this team has the ability to compete for the championship on this golf course," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "If we can build on all the things we did well in Arizona while improving upon our patience and mental mistakes that costs us big scores, I think we have the ability to compete with anyone in the country. Most importantly, we just need to keep moving forward and getting better every time out. If we do that, the results will take care of themselves."
