Junior Andrew Parr fired a six-under-par 66 on Thursday to lead Texas A&M to one of the best scores in school history in the second round of the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Club.

The final round is scheduled for Friday.

Parr's career-best round helped A&M to a team score of 10-under-par 278, a 14-stroke improvement from Wednesday's opening-round of 292. The score tied for the fourth best in A&M history and was the best since the Aggies carded a school record 13-under-par 275 at the 2003 Barona Collegiate Cup.

The Aggies jumped from 12th into a tie for ninth place with Colorado State with a 36-hole total of 570.

Junior Jerad Harklau added a three-under-par 69 for A&M, while freshman Trey Todd had a 70, freshman Bobby Gates carded a 73 and freshman Matt Van Zandt posted a 74. Senior David Schultz, competing as an individual, fired a 71.

No. 4-ranked New Mexico leads the 21-team tournament with a 274-275=549 total, followed by Arizona (553), No. 16 UNLV (556), BYU (557), Texas Tech (560), San Diego State (560), SMU (562), No. 5 Auburn (564), A&M and Colorado State (570).

New Mexico's Spencer Levin (65-67), UNLV's Ryan Moore (67-65) and SMU's Will Dodson (67-65) share the individual lead with 12-under-par totals of 132. Parr (75-66=141) and Harklau (72-69=141) are tied for 25th.

"Our focus was a lot better today and that resulted in better scores," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "We showed we can compete with these teams. I'm proud of our guys and hope we can go out and do ever better tomorrow."
