Games just don't go much better than ours did last week. We posted a total five wins, with two of those being big upsets. It was AWESOME!
It all got started on Wednesday afternoon when we hosted Sam Houston in an early evening game. Sam Houston played extremely well and we, on the other hand, did not. To make a long story short, the game was pretty nerve racking. Sam Houston had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth, but we managed to pull out the win 4-3. Although we didn't play the best game of softball, we found a way to win, and that is what makes good team become great! I know I keep saying this, but I am more excited about the games where we find ways to win than when we run-rule somebody. When we win those tight games it is just preparing us for those tough games toward the end of the season. Great teams find ways to win and that is exactly what we are doing!
We left for Palm Springs and the longest traveling day ever on Thursday morning. We left our field at 11 a.m. and didn't reach Palm Springs until about 12 a.m. Texas time. It was one long day!
Our first game of the tournament was at 10:30 Friday morning against Loyola Marymount. We definitely showed no signs of jet lag! After the first inning, the score was 4-0 in our favor thanks to back-to-back homeruns by Megan and Amanda. The damage did not stop there either, the game ended in the fifth inning courtesy of a run-rule. Our second game of the day did not come until 6 p.m. If you thought we would be tired or worn out, man o man, were you wrong! We came out fired up and determined to beat Washington! And beat them we did, we run-ruled them 10-0 in five innings! It was AWESOME!! We played so well!!
The most exciting game of the tournament came on Saturday afternoon. We faced off against the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, California, at 3 p.m. We played outstanding softball!! Megan got the start for us and helped us pull of the upset win 5-2. It was so exciting!! Everyone played extremely well! Our defense was flawless and our hitting was downright amazing! It was so much fun!! Although we were still on cloud nine, we had to come back later that night and play our second game of the day against UNLV. We started off a little shaky at first, but we pulled it all together and beat them 4-0. Saturday was definitely a great day for us!!
Sunday was a different story indeed. You know how sometimes things just don't go your way, well Sunday was one of those days. Long Beach State came to the field fired up and it was apparently supposed to be their day, because it was sure not ours. Everyone of their hits found a hole and not very many of ours did. The combination of those two factors resulted in our second loss of the season.
Even though we didn't end the weekend on a high note, we still had a GREAT weekend! We went to Palm Springs to make a name for ourselves and that is exactly what we did!
This weekend we get to play back at home in our second Aggie Invitational. We play two games on Friday, two games on Saturday, and one game on Sunday. It should definitely be another exciting weekend! I hope everyone gets a chance to come to the Aggie Softball Complex and watch your Fightin' Texas Aggies Beat the Hell Outta Everybody!
