Junior Jerad Harklau fired an even-par 72 on Friday to lead the Texas A&M men's golf team into seventh place after the first round of the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club.
The tournament continues on Saturday and Sunday.
The Aggies carded a team score of six-over-par 294 and trail No. 11-ranked TCU (285) by nine strokes. No. 6 UNLV is in second at 287, followed by No. 5 Wake Forest (290), Oklahoma (292), No. 4 New Mexico (292), No. 1 Oklahoma State (292), A&M, Arizona (296), Vanderbilt (297), No. 25 Texas (298), No. 21 Kentucky (299), Houston (300), Purdue (301), South Carolina-Aiken (308), Arkansas (309), Penn State (309) and Rice (312).
Harklau is tied for 12th in the individual standings, six shots behind leader Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest, who posted a six-under-par 66. New Mexico's Charlie Beljan is in second after a 69.
A&M junior Andrew Parr is tied for 19th (73), while freshmen Robert Gates is tied for 28th (74), freshman Matt Van Zandt is tied for 38th (75) and freshman Martin Piller is tied for 76th (79). Playing as an individual, senior David Schultz is tied for 52nd (76).
"We played a solid round today," A&M coach J.T. Higgins said. "We're in good position, but we have to come out tomorrow ready to score."
