Texas A&M outfielder Rocky Spencer went 4-for-7 with five RBI as the No. 10 Texas A&M softball team defeated Florida International, 5-1, and Wisconsin, 13-5, to remain undefeated and move into bracket play as the No. 1-seed at the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament.
"We are playing like a top 10 team right now," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Our pitchers are doing a great job keeping us in games and our hitters have been able to give us a lot of run support. Our defense has been solid all season and it seems like a different hitter is stepping up every game."
Spencer was named the State Farm Player of the Day after going 1-for-3 with one RBI against FIU before a 3-for-4, four RBI outing against Wisconsin.
In the first game, Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) scored the Aggies' first run of the game when she was plated by a Lindsay Park (Arcadia, Calif.) sac fly before Amanda Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) made it 2-0 on a Rocky Spencer (Katy, Texas) single to left.
After FIU cut the lead to one, Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) hit her third home run of the tournament to put the Aggies back up by two.
Gibson made it 5-1 in the sixth with her team-high 12th home run of the season. Gibson's left-field shot scored Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) after she reached on an error and stole second.
With the win against the Golden Panthers, Scarborough remained perfect on the season at 14-0 with a complete game four-hit outing while allowing one run, unearned.
A&M started out hot against Wisconsin as they put five runs across in the first off seven hits and one Badger error.
McDonald, who singled to lead off the game, scored on a Hinshaw single before she came across on a Gibson single. Gibson made it 4-0 when she scored on Gregory's single to left setting the table for Spencer's RBI single giving the Aggies a 5-0 lead.
After Wisconsin answered with three of their own in the bottom of the first, the Aggies extended their lead to 7-3 on back-to-back singles, by Park and Spencer, in the third that plated Gibson and Scarborough.
Spencer recorded her fourth RBI of the game in the fifth with her third single scoring Scarborough and giving A&M an 8-3 lead.
Gregory put the Aggies up by six in the fifth with a two-out single down the left line scoring Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) after she doubled to left field.
Gibson made it 10-3 Aggies in the top of the seventh when she plated James with a double to right center. Scarborough quickly made it 11-3 Aggies on her third hit of the game scoring Jami Lobpries (Wharton, Texas) who was pinch running for Gibson.
Later in the inning, Park finished the Aggie scoring with a drive to left center that was dropped by the left fielder allowing Scarborough and Gregory to score.
With the complete-game win, Gibson improved to 5-1 on the season with a seven-inning two-strikeout effort.
The Aggies improved to 27-2 on the season, an increased their season-high win streak to 11, after ending the game with a triple play, second to first to home, snapping off a Badger rally.
The Aggies finished day two of the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament with a 4-0 record. A&M will await today's results to find out who they will play in the championship game on Sunday at noon (CST).
