Texas A&M shortstop Adrian Gregory was named the Big 12 Softball Player of the Week for games of March 14-21, the league office announced Monday.
"Adrian had a great week last week," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "She has been the anchor of our team all season and she was totally dominant on the field last weekend. Adrian is a great player and an even greater person and she is most deserving of this reward."
Gregory (Livingston, Texas) led the Florida Atlantic Tournament in batting average (.643), home runs (3), slugging percentage (1.357) and runs batted in (9) as Texas A&M won five games en route to the championship. The senior shortstop hit two home runs in the opener against Michigan State, before going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI against FAU. On the second day, Gregory was 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. She was perfect defensively over the weekend, registering eight putouts and 10 assists with no errors. She also helped the Aggies turn a game-ending, bases-loaded triple play (4-6-3-2) to end the game in a 13-5 victory over Wisconsin.
The No. 7 Aggies begin conference play on Wednesday at Getterman Stadium in Waco against Baylor at 6:30 p.m.
