Texas A&M pinch hitter Laura Durham hit a fifth-inning two-run home run as the No. 7 Aggie softball team (31-2, 3-0) shut out No. 18 Nebraska, (20-11, 0-2), 6-0, in front of 797 fans at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Aggies continue their school-record start as they move to 31-2 on the season while extending their win streak to 15-games.
"This was a great weekend for us," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Last season we had three conference losses and they were all to Baylor and Nebraska, so it feels good to be ahead of were we were last season. Even though she gave up more hits today, I thought Amanda pitched better today. She had to show them (Nebraska) something different and she did."
Scarborough improved to 18-0 on the season and 3-0 in Big 12 play as she struck out nine in her complete game performance while extending her streak of innings without allowing an earned run to 44.
James (Mesquite, Texas) carried over her hot hitting from yesterday with an RBI triple to left center scoring Sharonda McDonald (Houston, Texas) from second. McDonald reached on an infield single before stealing second, her 42 consecutive stolen base dating back to last season.
In the bottom of the fifth, pinch hitter Durham gave the Aggies a 3-0 lead with powerful home run off the scoreboard in left scoring pinch runner Morgan Hebert (Peoria, Ariz.). The home run was her first of the season and earned her State Farm Player of the Game status.
Lindsay Park (Arcadia, Calif.) put the Aggies up 5-0 in the sixth with a bases-loaded double to right center scoring Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) and pinch runner Lisa Gorzycki (Bryan, Texas).
Later in the inning, the Aggie lead increased to six on a Joy Davis (Austin, Texas) fielders choice into left that plated Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) from third.
Texas A&M improved to 25-20 all time against Nebraska while shutting them holding them scoreless for only the third time this season.
The Aggies take a break from conference play with a Wednesday match-up against Texas State in San Marcos at 6 p.m.
