Texas A&M designated player Megan Gibson drove in two runs and earned the win as the No. 6 Aggie softball team defeated Texas State, 10-5, Wednesday night at Bobcat Field.

The Aggies continue their school-record start as they move to 32-2 on the season while increasing their win streak to 16 games.

"It is nice to end non-conference play with a win," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "Texas State is always a tough team, especially at their field, so it is good to come in here get the win. Our players did a great job of staying in the game, concentrating on defense and fighting at the plate."

Gibson (Spring, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the game as she recorded two RBI and two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate. In the circle she notched the win with 3.2 innings of relief work where she allowed no runs on two hits.

Gibson put the Aggies up 2-0 in the first inning with her 13th home run of the season scoring Sharonda McDonald (Houston, Texas) and driving in the Aggies' 71st and 72nd two-out RBI of the season.

After the Bobcats answered with three runs on two home runs in the first, A&M tied the game in the second when McDonald knocked in Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) with a single through the left side.

Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) broke the 3-3 tie with a two-run double in the fourth scoring Joy Davis (Austin, Texas) and McDonald. An error by the Bobcat shortstop allowed Hinshaw to score and put Gibson on first setting the table for Amanda Scarborough's (Magnolia, Texas) seventh home run of the season putting the Aggies up 8-3.

Scarborough scored the Aggies' ninth run of the game in the sixth on a fielding error by the Bobcat third baseman giving the Aggie a 9-3 advantage.

The Aggies added a run in the top of the seventh on the Bobcats' seventh error of the game.

With the win, Texas A&M improved to 51-9 all time against Texas State.

The Aggies return to conference play this weekend in Lawrence with a two-game series against the Jayhawks on Saturday and Sunday.
