Texas A&M opened its spring exhibition season by going undefeated at the Florida State Spring Volleyball Tournament and finishing with a 3-0-1 record Friday at Tully Gym.
The Aggies split their opener of the five-team, round-robin tournament, winning their first game, 30-24, against Jacksonville State. A&M experimented with a different lineup in the second game and never got into a rhythm as the Gamecocks pulled away, 30-22, to end the match in a tie.
Matches consisted of two games to 30 points. No tiebreakers were played.
A&M won both games in its second match, defeating North Florida, 30-15, 30-21. The Aggies followed that with another 30-15, 30-21 victory over Florida A&M and concluded the tournament with a 30-24, 30-17 victory over the host Seminoles.
A&M continues its spring schedule Saturday, April 9 at the University of Texas Spring Tournament in Austin. Other teams participating are LSU, New Mexico State, Houston, TCU, Rice and North Texas. The eight-team, one-day tournament will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gregory Gym, and admission is free.
The Aggies conclude the spring competition schedule Saturday, April 16 at the Rice Tournament in Houston.
A&M coach Laurie Corbelli returns five starters from the fall season in which the Aggies went 19-9. A&M was ranked No. 20 in the final national poll after making its 12th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance and advancing to the second round.
