The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team (34-2, 5-0 Big 12) head to Austin to take on the No. 4 Longhorns (28-5, 3-1 Big 12) as part of the Lone Star Showdown at McCombs field at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Aggies are riding an 18-game win streak, with a recent sweep of Kansas, and are off to their best start in school history while Texas enters the game after a two-game series sweep of Nebraska.
The Aggies are 9-11 all-time against Texas including a series sweep last season with a 6-0 win in Austin and an 11-1 run-rule win in College Station. Of their nine wins, A&M has recorded two one-run victories, four 2+ run victories and three 5+ run victories, outscoring Texas 45-7. Of Texas' 11 wins, five have been by one run, three by 2+ runs and three by 5+ runs while outscoring the Aggies 38-2. Against UT, A&M is 4-5 in College Station, 3-4 in Austin and 2-2 in neutral site games.
Wednesday's game is the 15th match of the 25-point series in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M. Texas currently leads the point standings by an eight to three margin. A school needs 10 points to win the yearly title. Wednesday's game is worth 0.5 points in the standings.
