The No. 6 Texas A&M softball team (34-3, 5-1) fell to No. 4 Texas (29-5, 4-1), 3-0, in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown in front of a school record 1,437 fans at McCombs Field.
The Aggies slowed their school-record start as they fell to 34-3 on the season while ending their win streak at 18 games.
"This was a frustrating night for us," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "When you make errors and don't make adjustments at the plate it is tough to win games. When you are facing a pitcher like Cat (Osterman) you have to take advantage of the few opportunities that you have and we didn't do that."
The Aggies put runners on in each of the first two innings but failed to capitalize. Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) earned a two-out walk in the first and stole second but was left stranded as was Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) who singled to lead off the second.
The Longhorns scored their three runs, one earned, in the second on four hits combined with the Aggies' three errors.
In the circle, Amanda Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) took her first loss of the year falling to 20-1 on the season and 5-1 in Big 12 play.
With the loss, Texas A&M dropped to 9-12 all time against Texas.
The Aggies continue conference play this weekend when they host Iowa State at the Aggie Softball Complex at 5 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
