Texas A&M pitcher Megan Gibson hit an eighth-inning walk-off two-run homer to lift the No. 6 Texas A&M softball team (36-3, 7-1) over Iowa State (12-22, 0-8), 4-2, at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Gibson (Magnolia, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the Game after her extra-inning heroics and her efforts in the circle as she threw a complete game improving to 7-1 on the season.
"We couldn't afford to lose a game this weekend," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "We were not our best offensively today but I am proud of our players for continuing to fight and finding a way to win. Jana did a great job getting on and Megan was certainly due."
After a 2-for-3 performance on Saturday, Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas) remained hot at the plate with a first-inning triple scoring Sharonda McDonald (Houston, Texas) from second after she singled to lead off the inning. Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) then made it 2-0 with a single to the left field gap plating Hinshaw.
The Cyclones tied the game with a run in the second and one in the fourth before James ripped a two-out double to left center in the eighth setting the table for Gibson's 14th home run of the year and the team's 83rd and 84th two-out RBI of the season.
With the win, Texas A&M improved to 24-4 all time against Iowa State.
Before the game, Director of Athletics Bill Byrne and Associate Athletic Director for Academics Steve McDonnell presented Lindsay Park with the Buck Weirus Spirit Award which she received for her outstanding leadership in student life and community involvement.
The Aggies continue conference play on Wednesday when they host Oklahoma State in a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
