The Texas A&M volleyball team concluded its spring schedule by sweeping all three of its matches today the Rice University Spring Tournament at Autry Court.
"I was really pleased," A&M coach Laurie Corbelli said. "Every game we played, we were very consistent. I thought that some leadership really came out in Laura Jones, who is incredibly influential on our court. She was ready 110 percent to play today. Today she was important to the whole flow of the team. She executed beautifully, and it just carried over to the entire team. It gave them confidence, passion and fire."
A&M opened the tournament by defeating Houston, 30-20, 30-23. The Aggies had split with Houston when the teams met at the Texas Tournament last weekend.
A&M followed that performance with a 30-17, 30-26 victory over Sam Houston State and concluded the tournament with a 30-18, 30-24 win over the host Owls.
"We knew we were the team to beat today," Corbelli said. "Everyone comes and plays their best game against us, and the team handled that really well. We played our game. We really worked for our rhythm.
"I thought our blocking was going to be really important today. It's just been a little missed timed and a little sloppy lately, and they were very, very strong at the net today. It was really fun to watch and a great way to finish up the spring."
Although win-loss records are not official, the Aggies finish their spring season undefeated at 7-0-4.
"We saw some great things," Corbelli said. "It showed us what options we are going to have in the future. We have some really great athletes, and we are in for a great fall."
The Aggies open the fall season Sept. 2-3 by hosting the McDonald's/Texas A&M Invitational at G. Rollie White Coliseum. The tournament schedule will be announced as soon as details are finalized.
