The No. 5 Texas A&M softball team (38-4, 9-2) took an early 3-0 lead but couldn't hold on as they fell to No. 5 Oklahoma (41-7, 9-1), 15-7, at the OU Softball Complex.

Amanda Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the Game after a 2-for-3 performance at the plate including a two-out two-run homerun in the first inning.

"This was quite a game today," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "We were dangerous throughout the lineup but we struggled keeping the ball down against their hitters and we paid for that."

Coming into the game, Oklahoma lead the nation in average, four points ahead of A&M, and proved why with a 13-hit performance lifting them ˝ game ahead of A&M in the Big 12 race.

In the circle, Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) fell to 8-2 on the season and 1-1 against top 25 teams after giving up seven runs in four innings.

Gibson put the Aggies up 1-0 with two outs in the first on a double to left center plating Jamie Hinshaw (Missouri City, Texas). Amanda Scarborough (Magnolia, Texas) then made it 3-0 on the first pitch she saw with her 10th homerun of the season driving the ball over the right field wall.

After Oklahoma took a 4-3 lead on home runs in each of the first three innings, Rocky Spencer's (Katy, Texas) fourth-inning two-out double down the left line scored Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) from second tying the game before she gave A&M the lead on a single by Joy Davis (Austin, Texas) and an OU error.

Oklahoma answered with five runs in the fourth and fifth before Lindsay Park (Arcadia, Calif.) brought the Aggies within two, 9-7, with a two-run homer, her third of the week, to right field.

The Sooners kept the bats going as they scored six runs in the sixth to run-rule the Aggies.

With the loss, Texas A&M fell to 13-29 all time against Oklahoma.

The Aggies and Sooners close out their series on Sunday. First pitch is set for noon.
