The No. 4 Texas A&M softball team (41-4, 12-2 Big 12) will host the No. 6 Longhorns (34-9, 8-4 Big 12) as part of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown at the Aggie Softball Complex on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2.
The Aggies are riding a 16-game home win streak and sit atop the Big 12 standings with four games to play. Texas, who plays a doubleheader with Texas Tech on Tuesday night, is currently third in the conference behind Oklahoma and Baylor who are tied for second, two games back of the Aggies. The Longhorns could enter Wednesday's game in second place depending on the outcome of a Tuesday doubleheader with Texas Tech.
The Aggies moved ahead of the Longhorns in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 with a sweep of Texas Tech and a Texas loss to Iowa State on Sunday. The Aggies, who have been ranked in the top 25 in every poll this season, are one of three teams receiving first place votes. Michigan received 17 first place votes and remained at No. 1 for the 10th week while No. 2 Arizona received one vote and No. 4 A&M received two.
The Aggies are 9-12 all-time against Texas after falling to them in Austin earlier this season.
Wednesday night's game will mark the first time the Aggies have played on television this season while the Longhorns have been televised four times heading into the contest.
Live audio and stats of Wednesday's game will be available, free of charge, on AggieAthletics.com. Fans attending the games will be able to listen to the broadcast by tuning into 89.9 on the FM dial.
