Texas A&M pitcher Megan Gibson hit a two-run home run in the sixth to lead the No. 4 Texas A&M softball team (44-6) over Oklahoma State, 7-5, in the Aggies' first game of the Big 12 Softball Tournament at Hall of Fame Stadium.
"I was proud of our girls for hanging in and getting the win," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "We knew OSU would come out and give us a good game and we just had to execute and that is what we did. We came up big with two outs and that, combined with our desire, was enough to win the game."
Gibson (Spring, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the Game after earning the victory in the circle and scoring three times on three walks and her round-tripper.
Lindsay Park (Arcadia, Calif.) put the Aggies up 2-0 in the first with a single to center that plated Jana James (Mesquite, Texas) from second and Megan Gibson (Spring, Texas) from first.
The Aggies added a run in the second on a Joy Davis (Austin, Texas) single scoring Laura Durham (Pearland, Texas) before OSU took a 4-3 lead with a two-run fourth and fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth, James drove in the game-winner with a double down the left field line scoring Davis and setting the table for Gibson to put the game out of reach with her 17th home run of the season.
Cowgirl shortstop Stephanie Nicholson hit her second home run of the game with a solo shot in the seventh but that was as close as OSU would get as Gibson recorded the final two outs with a fly out to left and a strike out looking to secure her 10th victory of the season.
