Texas A&M pitcher Lisa Gorzycki was impressive in relief but the No. 1 seed Aggies couldn't hold off the No. 2 seed Sooners (47-14) in an elimination game at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, falling to the Sooners, 6-2.
"We made them hit a lot of ground balls but the walks and hit batters really hurt us today," commented A&M head coach Jo Evans. "All-in-all our pitchers threw a lot better today. We left a lot of runners on base and that is something we haven't done a lot this season. We certainly had our chances and missed some opportunities."
Lisa Gorzycki (Bryan, Texas) was named the State Farm Player of the Game after her posting her most impressive outing in the circle. The former high school all-state hurler threw 3.0 innings in relief and held the high-powered Sooner offense at bay allowing no runs on three hits while keeping the OU bats off balance with a wicked changeup.
The Aggies were haunted by three walks and three hit batters resulting in five of the six Sooner runs.
The Aggies tallied four hits on the day and scratched across two runs in the sixth when Adrian Gregory (Livingston, Texas) and Jami Lobpries (Wharton, Texas) scored on passed ball and wild pitch, respectively.
Texas A&M, the Big 12 Regular Season champions, finish the tournament 1-2 and await a certain bid to the NCAA's.
